Very good in many aspects but this tour had 18 travellers plus the driver and tour guide so way too crowded to be comfortable in the bus.
Some hotels were very good and some average as were the provided meals. The dinner in Beaune was way below par, very disappointing.
Our tour guide, Nathalie was excellent and went above and beyond her duties.
Our tour leader Natalie just made this trip. Her knowledge and enthusiasm were fantastic. Some of the meals in the itinerary were not of a standard or value of or this tour.
This tour was more than we could ever have expected. Well organized and we learned so much about the history of France. We give most of the credit to success of tour to our tour guide Nathalie Verhulst as she was always there with answers, suggestions for restaurants and just everything else including more laughs than we could ever have expected.
We have read other reviews of Blue Roads tours that were not terribly flattering and feel it must be due to the tour guide selected by the company.
When we were in Annecy we asked her why we couldn't have stayed there instead of Chambéry. She said she had put that suggestion forward to the company a while back and then one of our group informed us that it was now listed as the overnight spot on the 2025 tour.
Also we visited a bakery and we felt that could be replaced with something else and it would appear in 2025 than you have done that. Apparently Blue Roads listens and evaluates suggestions put forward.
We are contemplating a tour in Portugal in 2025 and Blue Roads is on our list, however, there were some not very nice things said about that tour.
Lodgings, food and the bus are also very important to your customers and we know you must be always looking at those things to try to make them the best for your customers.
Very comprehensive trip with wonderfully informative tour guide ,(Natalie).
Trip and therefore bus bit crowded with 18 tourists the driver and the tour guide.
Exceptional tour leader in Nathalie. Well selected destinations. But some accommodation not good enough
It was a lovely organinsed tour, slightly on the expensive side. The tour leader Natalie was brilliant. If you are a couple it is great, if you are single my advice is to make sure that there are other singles going as you tend to have alot of spare time to explore. Overall the tour was enjoyable but what makes a great tour are the people you travel with.
Had the best time travelling from Paris to Nice. Natalie was a fabulous travel guide with her knowledge and explanation of how things work. Would do the trip again also had a great bunch of people on board the trip.
Really enjoyed our time . Our guide Natalie was so very helpful and informative. She have a huge lit of information all relevant to the town or attraction we visited.
I really enjoyed this trip. Great for the wine lover and also some special surprises along the way. Good variety of experiences and beautiful scenery.
Tour guide, coach and coach driver were excellent. Sites were well chosen, and the tour guide left us to our own self exploratory at times. Dinners were good but some of the accommodation was a little off in terms of room comfort. Breakfasts were quite good also. Certainly good value.
Great experience, Nathalie was a fantastic tour guide, very knowledgeable.
Well-planned selection of varied activities i.e. stained glass museum visit, trips to local vineyards and cheese tasting.
Backroads did not dissappoint! 5*
Tour itself well planned & managed as we have come to expect from Backroads. It was somewhat let down by the selection of hotels & variable quality of rooms allocated. I have already commented on these issues in feedback online following conclusion of tour. Specifically the Paris hotel very noisy with loud disco music & lights going on close to our room until 5.30 am. Several others of your group also so affected. You have already responded to complaints from others in the group about the hotel in Beaune.
My wife & I being on our 3rd tour with you & elderly were disappointed to be allocated a disablity room in one hotel & a family type room in Briancon where other members of the group had much better rooms with balconies & alpine views. We are of the old fashioned view that loyalty should count for something.
What a great experience. Guide,Emmanuel and Driver Kaspar were excellent.
It was more then i expected. Competent Guide a good Mixtur of poeple. I Held back with purchases Lack of Space. Emanuela found the right places to make this Trip unforgetable. Our Driver Kaspar managed to get us thru safe from A to B I certainly recomend this Tour!!
I asked the tour operators to provide gluten free meals for my husband. This did not happen. In fact the unethical tour operators have knowingly contracted with hotels that do not provide gluten free products as a policy. The INCLUDED meals were ****. The standard of accommodation for what we paid was pretty bad. The included excursions were El cheapo ie free trips to churches and discussions about stained glass like school trips. The bus was way too small for 18 people. I had a bad back as a result of the cramped bus conditions. The tour guide and driver I could not fault. But I WILL NOT BE BOOKING ANOTHER CHEAPSKATE TOUR WITH THIS TOUR OPERATOR.
This tour was very well organised. A comfortable party size of eighteen made it more acceptable to us. Our guide and driver were top class people; patient, diligent and careful for all. They went out on a limb to assist with a traveling couple who were ill and had dietary issues and assisted me return to a restaurant to obtain my passport wallet. Highly recommended to see much of the beauty of France in comfort and ease. We saw parts of France my French friend has never seen.
We loved everything about this tour. The guides, the landscapes, the food, the special tours, the itinerary!! We discovered beautiful medieval towns, tasted locals wines & cheeses, and drove through the French Alps!!
We had an awesome time. Lots to see and we definitely saw some lovely back roads. Adriano was our guide and he went above and beyond when my partner needed to go to hospital. He stayed all night with us and translated for us. Made us feel safe! Great humour too. Kaspars our driver was also great. Calm and collected driver in the face of tight curving roads and weird other drivers on the road. Our bus had it's window broken over night - took in his stride and patched until new bus could meet us!
Amazing experience, stunning scenery
Well organised
Excellent
Trip was very nice. Tour guide was very good.
The bus could have provided water for each of us.
The tour rarely included town maps for our use.
We encountered issues when arriving in towns while shopkeepers were on their siesta (from 12:30 - 2:30) so many times the tour was unable to do much shopping. We happened to be touring when there was a holiday, so many places we stopped were very crowded.
Our stop in Perouges for a view from the citadel/castle was very difficult to climb to and we had a very short 15 min. stop. This could have been cancelled.
Our stop in Troyes was wonderful. The leaning buildings, the narrow streets and the history of surviving the war. A terrific stop.
Our tasting tours were conducted beautifully and enjoyed very much.
All of the hotels were very nice except for the gentleman at the desk in the Hotel de la Paix in Beaune. He was extremely rude to a few of the people on our tour and also to the guide and driver.
The drive through the Alps was breathtaking.
We had a great tour leader and a very capable driver. When our bus was vandalized, there was hardly a ripple - it was taken care of quickly, efficiently and effectively. We couldn't have hoped for a better group of people to travel with as were given a succession of opportunities to experience a slice of France.
I enjoyed the tour immensely, we booked Back-roads because of the smaller group touring. The accomodation & meals provided were of an excellent quality, apart from the hotel in Beaune, the contiege was rude & unhelpful. My highlight was touring though the Alps, the scenery was spectacular. Our tour guide & driver were very acknowledgable and helful. My only complaint was the amount of public holidays we encounted on our tour, it made certain destinations unpleasant with the volume of people encounted.
The brochure promised mountain views upon throwing open your hotel window. All my views were of car parks or main roads. The hotels were clean but otherwise not very comfortable. The bus was cramped with no legroom. Most of the provided dinners were very ordinary. During my tour there were three public holidays so amenities were limited on those days. The tour should not have gone ahead that week.
The driver and the tour guide were excellent.
Although there were some really interesting stops, I felt that the tour was not good value for money.
We enjoyed the tour & our guide Albert Tshizubu & driver George Sandor were both great. Albert gave good information & was always clear & concise with instructions & George was a very smooth & safe driver. In your information you list the size of suitcase to bring & there were a few people who had much bigger suitcases. We thought this was unfair on the driver, guide & fellow travellers.
Had amazing time toura guide was fantastic the driver absolutely amazing and the People absolutely fantastic
First half of tour great but disappointing after that. Food not great on tour
They delivered what they promised. Back roads great locations. History and opportunities for photography
A bit off the beaten track and beautiful scenery in the alpine area
Have already said that the guide and itinerary were excellent.
The provided meal at Beaune was not as good as at other places , so I would suggest choosing another restaurant there.
Great to have 2 nights in many places
See previous comments. Brilliant.
Tour was well worth the cost.
Tour was amazing. Lots of interesting stops in between destinations. Loved the winery lunch and all the old cities and churches.
Early communication and correspondence was lacking.
Excellent tour with guide and druver
Fantastic tour. We had a great tour group and amazing tour guide and driver. We saw so much and learnt so much about the French countryside and wineries.
Great from start to finish , it’s hard to pick a highlight everything was superb.
Spectacular scenery fantastic company and excellent leader in Max and Ken good sense of humour and story telling.
Spectacular rural scenery, particarly through the French Alps.
Picturesque villages. Interesting visits and activities.
The perfect road trip, balanced with good food, wine, history, beautiful little towns.
The tour route was the perfect combination of organized activities and free time.
same comment as before and France in May is a nightmare. Every weekend is a holiday nothing was open.
Excellent itinerary and tour leader/driver. Hotels of low quality and included meals poor
Nice trip , well planned. Only issue was we had to wait until the day before departure to get any hard documents from Blue-Roads. This was nerve wracking for both us and our travel agent. Need improve the after sale communications.
Enchanting countryside, more than I expected.
