Great tour.
Absolutely loved every moment. The tour guide fitted in well with a group of aussies.
Excellent tour, plenty of things to see.
Very informative guide who catered for our group with ease.
Made the tour very easy to like and have fun.
Thanks again,
Paul Herbig
The tour was great
Except for the bus
It was very squashed ( a little better than the first bus when the exhaust came off)
Our guide Nic was brilliant
Passionate funny and extremely knowledgeable
Accommodation was very good
As much as my dream was to attend the Dawn Service at Villers B in my opinion it was too many people attending and I am short so I had great difficulty seeing anything
I think a service in one of the villages would be wonderful
Thoroughly enjoyed the tour, our guide was extremely knowledgeable, the accommodation was good, although feel it would have been much more convenient to stay in Ypres. The downside was always running late on the itinerary, too much talking by the guide and no free time what so ever. Would have liked more information on general living / farming in France and Belgium, realise it is a war focussed tour but still would have liked some general information also. There was only 8 on the tour and it was a good number and they were all very good company. The driver was excellent, felt safe with him disappointed he didn’t speak English so we could talk to him
The Back Road ANZAC on the Western Front Dawn Service (Southbound) proved to be a carefully planned, very well executed, accurate, balanced, considered tour. The tour party consisted of a well informed, eclectic, discerning group of participants who concluded the tour much better informed and delighted with their experience.
The tour guide was most considerate, attentive, engaging, knowledgeable and great company. He went the extra mile to ensure all participants expectations were met.
He was very well supported by a professional bus driver.
Great tour with excellent guide and bus driver
Wonderful tour. Loved travelling the backroads of France and Belgium to explore the battlefields.
It was a very good tour it was all I expected. I was able visit all my relatives that remained behind in 1918.
This tour was perfect. The tour guide was a well qualified expert; the itinerary was well organised, focusing on key locations. It was very informative and very moving.
We loved the tour. It covered an extensive number of places of significance to WW1. The commentary was exemplary. Stephen has clearly spent a lot of time researching various aspects to enhance the tour and to provide intimate personal journeys. All this m as Les it far more interesting than just going from one monument or cemetery to the next.
The driver did a great job of taking us around. Such a shame that we had to change buses halfway through. That was not very professional but not the fault of Backroads. The accommodation in Amiens was below the standard of the other two hotels and too far out of the city centre. Fortunately, Backroads agreed to pay the taxi fares so we could eat in the town (the only other option was microwaved meals at the hotel).
Excellent tour director and driver. Together they added to what was a marvellous experience.
My only negative was the steps we had to climb as over 70s at the hotel in Amiens.
The staff however at this hotel were exceptionally helpful.
The highlight was of course the Anzac Service at Villers Brettoneux.
Everything worked well. Even some above and beyond service from our tour guide when we left our passports at one of the hotels. Greatly appreciated and just enhanced our view of the whole experience, which was already excellent.
Their service needs improvement. Their Hotels some OK some poor. Their Transport unacceptable. Their Tour Director knowledge extremely good but running a tour very poor in fact unacceptable.
Wonderful tour guide, so knowledgeable. Really made the tour amazing. It was great to visit so many sights and attend the dawn service.
