Safeguarding your health
Our COVID-19 Vaccine Policy
Nothing is more important to us than our guests’ wellbeing. That’s why we’ve introduced our COVID-19 Vaccine Policy – requiring you to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 to travel with us. The only exception to this is if you are medically exempt from having the vaccine.Learn more
Back-Roads has been awarded the World Travel and Tourism Council’s Safe Travels stamp, providing you with assurance that all our tours will be in adherence with public health instructions and WTTC’s globally recognised guidelines.
You're in safe hands
We’ve spent over 30 years developing exceptional training and robust incident management processes for our Tour Leaders and Drivers that place your health, safety and wellbeing at the forefront of every Back-Roads experience. In these unprecedented times, we are committed to ensuring our Tour Leaders and Drivers are trained in COVID-specific hygiene standards and are equipped to ensure you have the safest and most enjoyable experience possible.
Compliant hygiene standards
As standard, our modern fleet of mini-coaches are immaculately cleaned before each tour starts and regularly throughout. Your Back-Roads Driver will ensure the daily sanitisation of all surfaces (with a focus on high-frequency touchpoints like handles and tables). We will implement additional health and hygiene procedures recommended by leading health experts to help prevent the transmission of COVID-19 and increase the safety for our guests, crew and the local communities we visit.
Set off with confidence
Rest easy knowing our friendly Customer Service Team are here to help with any questions or concerns you have prior to your tour – including arranging a single supplement for solo travellers wanting their own space. They’re up to date with the latest travel alerts and are well positioned to provide detailed information about your tour. In addition, you will receive personalised communication regarding any other relevant information surrounding your tour destination(s) – so you can feel confident and safe before your departure.
24/7 on-tour support
All tours begin with a full briefing outlining what guests can expect from their unique Back-Roads adventure. This briefing will now include a comprehensive guide to our hygiene policies and protective recommendations to help keep yourself, and others, safe throughout your tour. Our Tour Leaders are thoroughly trained to provide proactive guidance in every destination and are equipped with the practical local knowledge to assist you whilst on tour. Our Tour Leaders and Drivers are also assisted by 24/7 operational support and have access to real-time resources to ensure they are aware of any changes as they happen.
Keeping each other safe
To ensure the safety of you and your fellow travellers, we ask that you take personal responsibility for your own wellbeing by familiarising yourself with hygiene and safety measures recommended by WHO. These include regular hand washing and sanitisation, complying with local social distancing guidelines and wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) where applicable. All guests will be required to complete a pre-boarding declaration confirming your understanding of personal responsibilities during your tour.
In response to COVID-19, we’re working closely with our partners and suppliers to ensure they are meeting health, safety and cleanliness standards throughout their facilities and service delivery. Cleaning protocols, hygiene records, reduction of touch points, customer ratings and risk assessment policies have been reviewed to ensure our guests’ safety and wellbeing remains the highest priority. This is new to all of us, but rest assured we are actively working on solutions with our trusted partners to ensure you have the best possible experience.

How many people will be on my tour?
At Back-Roads Touring, we specialise in small group tours with a maximum capacity of 18 people (average group size of 14 people). This small group element is one of the key reasons people choose to travel with us. Travelling in smaller groups means our Tour Leaders can provide a more personalised travelling experience to every one of our guests.
How will we avoid large groups of people?
We’re very eager to explore with you in the future, however avoiding large crowds at popular attractions and locations will be challenging. Our tours deliver unique travel experiences that naturally visit lesser-known destinations – providing our guests with exclusive access to local experiences and charming, hand-picked accommodation. This means we are able to provide an unforgettable travel experience for our guests whilst avoiding larger crowds whenever possible.
Will I need to self-quarantine before or after I travel?
We are constantly monitoring government and World Health Organization (WHO) guidelines, and any quarantine regulations will depend entirely on what measures individual countries adopt. For your own safety and wellbeing, you will need to ensure you are fully compliant with any guidance issued from your country of residence or destination of travel.
What if I start to feel unwell on my tour?
Let your Tour Leader know as soon as possible. Feeling unwell on a tour can happen and our Tour Leaders are already trained on appropriate actions to take if this occurs. All Back-Roads Tour Leaders will have received additional training specific to coronavirus safety – ensuring they're as prepared as possible to focus on your wellbeing.
Will I have to wear a mask whilst on my tour?
We are constantly monitoring industry best practice guidelines and government regulations as more information becomes available. At this stage, we can assume some personal protective equipment (such as a mask or gloves) may be required for particular destinations and attractions. However, we will provide details before your tour departure so you are prepared according to your destination of travel. To ensure the safety and comfort of all our guests, failure to comply with Back-Roads policies and government regulations could result in your removal from your tour.
