Celebrating 100 tours

We are thrilled to announce that we have just concluded our 100th tour back on the road! This season has been abundant with spectacular scenery, mouthwatering cuisine and unforgettable memories.

To celebrate this magnificent milestone, we’ve reached out to our Tour Leader Giovanni Braida for an update on this noteworthy tour, Highlights of Britain.

How has the 2022 travel season been going?

Giovanni describes 2022 as the year of “lots of little hurdles” with new adversities to overcome whilst on the road. Despite this, he has been blown away by just how positive his guests have been whilst travelling again.

“Guests have been pioneers for showing how determined they have been to travel and see the world. People in the tourism sectors have also been doing their utmost best to get back to normality for everyone and their dedication and flexibility has been amazing to see”.

What do you admire about the Highlights of Britain tour?

“This tour is something that I'm just very much fascinated with as you can just feel the potential of what the countries have to offer even in just one day travelling. There are so many beautiful spots and every single corner you turn provides an opportunity to see something unique.

Britain just offers such a variety of dialects that each new town and city you truly feel as though you are travelling much further than you are. You have the Yorkshire accent then the Welsh accent and then the Scottish accent. They are just all so different!”

What’s your favourite location to visit during this tour?

He struggled to answer this one (and we don’t blame him!), “how can I possibly choose?!”

“Snowdonia National Park is a particularly lovely experience due to the combination of the gorgeous National Park with the most comfortable place we stay on tour, Mulberry Inn! It’s always nice exploring a new region and knowing you have a nice place to come back to at night – comfortable with good food. The Hotel Manager Alan always provides great entertainment each night running fun quizzes for us to enjoy!”

We pride ourselves on selecting charming accommodation in each location and the hospitality at Mulberry Inn just makes this stunning national park just that extra bit more special.

What do you most treasure about leading tours for Back-Roads Touring?

Giovanni describes his favourite aspect of leading tours for Back-Roads Touring wonderfully;

“with our guests, we have a blank canvas. I can see my guests as the colours on my easel. I see each of them as individuals for suggesting things, proposing what they might enjoy.

My goal is to provide differentiation, so everyone is getting something personalised for them. The day of Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral is a great example of this whereby some wanted to stay and watch it on tv, some wanted to be taken to churches and some just wanted to go out walking.

One of my favourite moments is to be able to deliver something different all the time; different drivers, different people, tailored experiences. The driver was such an enthusiast – we were like a double act using the microphone – sometimes like a comedy act – so much humour! Also, the peak of my professional achievement was managing to deliver the tour to my oldest ever guest at 91-years-old!”
