Our tour guide Steve's love of history showed throughout the WWI Battlefield tour. His knowledge & passion gave a vivid representation of what it would have been like for the soldiers. We particularly liked that at every cemetery he told us about certain soldiers, the challenges they would have faced and about their life. It was at times somber and overwhelming for all of us to comprehend the sheer number of causalities and dead. The flexibility of the tour meant we could be in Ypres on 11th November, we attended the Poppy parade & returned for the service at the Menin Gates that night. It was special to be able to be there on Remembrance Day, a memory that we will always treasure. Terrific accommodation and amenities, I love that we stayed in a hotel that had once been an abbey and one that was previously a priory. Steve often recommended local restaurants for dinner; we all enjoyed our meals together and sharing a laugh. Alex (our bus driver) was friendly & courteous; he kept the bus clean & warm throughout the tour. Excellent service, in fact, after seeing our posts on Facebook every day several of our friends asked who we were touring with. We told them Back-Roads, we highly recommend them.

The itinerary was excellent if crowded. Tour guide (Steve) was simply outstanding. It provided good ‘surface level’ coverage of a wide range of aspects of WW1.
