The background knowledge and experience of the guide added much to the enjoyment of the tour. There was less focus on trendy aspects of the sites visited, and a deeper examination of all things historical that fed into the development of England and its institutions.

Back-Roads promise 4star, boutique accommodation. The hotels we had on this tour were 2 star at best. This was our fifth tour with BR and we have had excellent accommodation in the past and this was one of the reasons we rebooked with them. The tour activities were repetitive and boring. The queen’s death didn’t help but we don’t think this can be used as an excuse for a very disappointing experience.
